Some regions had excellent snow fall this year, other regions did not. There are issues with this, including less water supply for the summer months from the run-off, and the local ski resorts without the heavy snow fall saw less traffic, higher expenses and tightening of budgets. Now with gasoline prices pressing up against $4.00 per gallon, fewer people will be visiting that last snow of the season. Worse, is the fact that many ski resorts have Spring, Summer and Fall Activities also; such as, downhill bicycle racing, mountain biking, hiking, Boy Scouts, Summer Camps, etc.
Obviously, as the price of fuel goes up, fewer people plan trips, this means less sales for those local ski resort economies that are based on tourism and visitors. Both lean years of snow and high fuel prices tend to mimic the same slow seasonal tourist take, monetarily speaking this is a miniature disaster in the making. Indeed, ski resorts also have lots of equipment like rescue vehicles, maintenance vehicles, shuttles and even snow making machines, and guess what, they also run on fuel (diesel) or gasoline, meaning their costs are now way up also.
Even the ski lifts often run on diesel motors, thus, they take fuel as well, so what I am pointing out here is do not be surprised if your lift tickets are astronomically high and the cost to get to your favorite ski resort is double too, then there is a good chance that you might re-think your trip to the resort and in doing so you will be like many others who may choose not to go at all, see the point?
